Hello, I’m Daren Liew, Chef Patron of Nanyang Blossom.
After more than 25 years working in kitchens across Asia and Europe, I’ve come to believe that food is one of the most powerful ways we tell our stories. For me, Nanyang Blossom is the story I’ve waited my whole life to tell — a modern interpretation of Southeast Asian cuisine, brought to life here in Knightsbridge, London.
🌶️ Growing Up with Flavour in Penang
I was born in Penang, Malaysia, a place known for its rich culture, bold spices, and unforgettable street food. From a young age, I was surrounded by the smells of ginger, lemongrass, curry leaves, and sambal bubbling in claypots. I didn’t realise it at the time, but those humble dishes — passed down from aunties and hawker stalls — would later become the foundation of my culinary voice.
🌍 A Culinary Journey Through Asia and Europe
My journey eventually took me to Singapore, where I worked in some of the region’s most respected restaurants, and later to London, where I refined my techniques and explored European fine dining. Those years taught me discipline, precision, and the importance of ingredient quality — lessons I carry into every dish I create today.
Each dish on the Nanyang Blossom menu is a reflection of that journey. It’s not fusion for the sake of trend — it’s a true expression of heritage meeting innovation.
🍽️ What Inspires the Nanyang Blossom Menu?
When we design a menu, we don’t chase what’s popular. We focus on what feels honest and meaningful.

We respect classic Nanyang flavours — like those in our beef rendang or Penang Nyonya grouper fish.

We use modern techniques and the finest ingredients — like A4 Miyazaki wagyu, Canadian lobster, and hand-ground spice blends.

And most importantly, we cook with sincerity.
Whether it’s a delicate dumpling or a bold, sambal-tossed seafood dish, I want every plate to feel personal. Something that tells a story — not just mine, but yours too.

To me, great food should always reflect three things:

When guests tell me that a dish reminds them of home, or that they’ve discovered something new and exciting — that’s the best reward I could ask for.
